Parenting Support

Parenting is a privilege but can be one of the most challenging roles we have in life.
Parenting struggles can lead to feelings of guilt, sadness, frustration, discouragement, self-doubt, and even self-hatred. Our counselors are here to support parents of young children, adolescents, and even parents who are navigating parenting their adult children.

In addition to personalized parent consults, we offer a highly effective, 10-week parenting course

CHILD-PARENT RELATIONSHIP THERAPY

Child-Parent Relationship Therapy is an evidence-based treatment program where caregivers learn some of the skills of professional counselors and play therapists to use at home with their children. Being trained in CPRT is a unique opportunity for parents to become the “therapeutic agents” for their children. Parents learn unique ways of responding to their children, which helps children feel loved and accepted and more connected.

“Great course.
Worth every minute, worth the cost.
Thank you.”
— CPRT Parent

Research has confirmed what our experience has shown, that this unique bonding time and the therapeutic skills learned in the CPRT parenting classes typically result in:

  • significantly less unwanted behaviors

  • less parental stress

  • an increase in self-confidence & self-control
for the participating adults and their children

“Very powerful. Surprisingly simple.
Takes practice. Will make a lasting impact on our family forever.
Thank you!”
— CPRT Parent

In addition to parents coping with general issues
who are simply seeking to improve their parenting skills,
CPRT has successfully been used with:

•  foster & adoptive parents
•  grandparents
•  teachers
•  single parents
•  immigrant parents
•  incarcerated parents
•  parents of chronically-ill children
•  moms in domestic violence shelters
•  parents of children with learning difficulties
•  non-offending parents of children who have been abused

Each participant receives a binder full of helpful handouts and weekly homework assignments. Most of our training sessions include a time of demonstration and role-playing to practice the skills. Each family purchases/collects specific toys (using a list provided) to create their own, special toy kit that will be used to conduct weekly, 30-minute special playtimes at home with a child of focus. Participants then take turns debriefing with the group and showing video clips of their play sessions in order to receive personalized guidance from the instructor.

“It was
incredibly insightful,
well paced and a
well facilitated course that has brought much hope
to our family.
Thank you!”
— CPRT Parent

When possible, it’s ideal to have both parents participate together in the CPRT training. In order to encourage participation of both parents, our counselors have chosen to offer the services pro bono for the 2nd parent when both parents of a family attend the same group.

Group size is typically kept to a max of 8 participants.

To secure a spot in the next CPRT group, the
non-refundable prepayment of $350 is required upon registration. The remaining $350 is due on the 1st day of the course.

A commitment to attend and pay for the entire course is required to join the group. Individual make-up sessions are
charged at the counselor's individual rate.

Our CPRT course is typically led/co-led by one of our
Registered Play Therapists, who each have a lot of experience and are highly qualified for the role.
